2025 – 2026
Welcome to Year 4!
For more information about what we will be learning click on the ‘Knowledge Organiser’ tab at the bottom of the year 4 page.
The teaching team:
Miss A. Platt, Mrs E. McLoughlin, Reverand J. Hassall and Mrs T. Perry.
Important things to know:
School starts at 8.45am and our day finishes at 3.15pm.
As well as reading every night, homework will be given out on a Friday and is due in on a Wednesday.
You need to have your PE kit in school every day, however this term PE will be on a Wednesday.
Arrival and dismissal
The year 4 day begins at 8.45am. Children must arrive at 8.40am and enter via the key stage 2 gate. Year 4 leave via the same gate at 3.15pm. In the morning, the key stage 2 gate will open at 8.40am so that registers can be taken and learning can begin at 8.45am.
Equipment
Children will be provided with all the equipment they need. They do not need to bring any other equipment (pens, pencils, rubbers etc) into school. All children need to bring a named water bottle with them to school every day.
PE
Children must have their full PE kit available in school every day. This includes a plain white t-shirt, navy or black shorts, joggers or leggings and trainers. Colourful or heavily branded items of clothing are not allowed.
Homework
Children are expected to read 5 times per week. Diaries will be checked daily and reading totals collated every Friday. Parents should complete/sign their child’s diary after every read. Children with less than 4 signed entries per week may be asked to stay in and read. We cannot stress enough the importance of daily reading to boost fluency and comprehension skills. The termly assessments are extremely rigorous and children are expected to have a good reading stamina and extensive vocabulary. The only way to improve is to read, read and read again!
Homework will be set on a weekly basis. It will be given on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday. All children are expected to complete the tasks set. Each week there will be a combination of maths, reading and spelling, punctuation and grammar to complement our learning in school.
Multiplication Times Tables Check
In June, all year 4 children in England are required to sit a statutory test which assesses their times tables knowledge. It is vital that children know all their times tables up to and including 12×12. We would be very grateful if you could ensure that your child logs into their Times Tables Rockstar account on a regular basis. If you have forgotten your login, please ask a member of the year 4 team for a reminder!
