Important things to know:

School starts at 8.40am and our day finishes at 3.10pm.

As well as reading every night, we may send home additional activities to support the learning in class. These do not need to be returned to school.

You need to have your PE kit in school every day.

Homework expectations

Children are expected to read at least 5 times a week and have their reading record signed. It is important that an adult listens to them read regularly and records this in their diary. We cannot stress enough the importance of daily reading to boost fluency and comprehension skills. Without daily reading at home to support our work in school, children will struggle to meet the expected standard. The only way to improve is to read, read and read again!

Equipment

Children will be provided with  all the equipment they need. They must not bring any other equipment (pens, pencils, rubbers etc) into school. All children need a named water bottle with them in school daily filled with water.

All children require indoor P.E kit including: t-shirt, shorts and trainers. Full P.E. kits should be in school every day.

Snack

Each child will recieve a free fruit or vegetable snack from the NHS every day. They will also be offered a drink of milk or water. They do not need to provide any further snack.

Timings

Our day starts at 8.40am and we finish at 3.10pm. Arrival and dismissal are via the classroom door through the gate on Long Lane South. Children will not be released to anyone under the age of 16yrs. Please let teaching staff know if someone new will be collecting your child as they will not be released to an adult the staff do not already know without prior arrangement.

Here are some snap shots of some of the learning in reception. The children learn indoors and outdoors!

The three characteristics of effective teaching and learning:

  • Playing and exploring – where children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’.
  • Active learning – where children concentrate and keep on trying, even when they encounter difficulties, and enjoy their achievements.
  • Creating and thinking critically – where children have and develop their own ideas, and can make links between them, and develop strategies for doing things.

This approach will be evident in the environment and teaching alongside the expectations and requirements needed for achievement of the Early Learning Goals.
