Homework

Children are expected to read 5 times per week. Diaries will be checked daily and reading totals collated every Friday. We understand that older children do not need/want to read to an adult all of the time but we still ask parents to sign/initial their child’s reading diary to say that they have read independently. Children with less than 4 entries signed/initialled by an adult per week may be asked to stay in and read. We cannot stress enough the importance of daily reading to boost fluency and comprehension skills. National tests for the end of Key Stage 2 are extremely rigorous and children are expected to have a good reading stamina and extensive vocabulary. The only way to improve is to read, read and read again!

Homework will be set on a weekly basis. It will be given on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday. All children are expected to complete the tasks set. Each week there will be a combination of maths, reading and spelling, punctuation and grammar to complement our learning in school.

Arrival and dismissal

The year 5 day begins at 8.45am. Children must arrive at 8.40am and enter via the key stage 2 gate. Year 5 leave via the same gate at 3.15pm. In the morning, the key stage 2 gate will open at 8.40am so that registers can be taken and learning can begin at 8.45am. Permission forms are available from the office for any families to consent to their children walking home alone.

Equipment

Children will be provided with all the equipment they need. They do not need to bring any other equipment (pens, pencils, rubbers etc) into school. All children need to bring a named water bottle with them to school every day.

PE

Children must have their full PE kit available in school every day. This includes a plain white t-shirt, navy or black shorts, joggers or leggings and trainers. Colourful or heavily branded items of clothing are not allowed.
